At the end of 2023, Rob Bolte was the first bowler to report a USBC-sanctioned 300-game on Funk’s string pinsetters at Lokay Lanes in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Similarly, Lokay Lanes made history as the first string pin bowling facility with Funk’s string machines to have a sanctioned 300-game in the United States.

At the forefront of this exciting news is Funk Bowling’s best-in-class, and internationally renowned string pinsetter machines which were recently installed at Lokay Lanes.

Lokay Lanes, featured in the 1996 Bill Murray, Woody Harrelson comedy “Kingpin,” is a beloved institution in the Monroeville community. It has long been known for its commitment to providing top-notch bowling experiences. Now, they’re embracing a new era of bowling by partnering with Funk Bowling. This partnership not only signifies Lokay Lanes’ dedication to offering patrons the best in bowling but also cements their place in history as pioneers in the sport.

“We want to congratulate Rob on this historic achievement,” said Justin Lokay, 2nd generation co-owner of Lokay Lanes. “We partnered with Funk Bowling to become one of the first USBC-sanctioned string pin bowling facilities in the U.S., and are ecstatic to have one of our bowlers reach this milestone.”

Funk Bowling’s string pinsetter machines are at the heart of this announcement. These innovative machines simplify pinsetter management and maintenance while adhering to the highest industry standards. They are low-maintenance, efficient, and cost-effective, making them an ideal choice for proprietors looking to enhance the customer experience while managing operational costs.

“We want to congratulate Rob on his 300-game,” said Alex Funk, third-generation President of Funk Bowling North America. “We’ve been perfecting the string machine long before string was as popular as it is today and we’re excited to be part of this historic moment in bowling.”

Following the announcement that the USBC was certifying string pinsetters, the rise of string pin technology adoption has accelerated in the US. At the same time, non-traditional bowling experiences, such as duckpin bowling, are gaining popularity. These experiences offer a fresh and exciting take on the sport, drawing in diverse crowds, and string machines make this offering more viable for business owners.

The world of bowling is changing, and Funk Bowling is proud to be at the forefront of this exhilarating journey into the future. We look forward to supporting more facilities as they follow in the footsteps of Lokay Lanes, ushering in a new era of bowling.
